Julian Teixeira

Chief Communications Officer

Julian Teixeira is the Southern Poverty Law Center鈥檚 chief communications officer. He oversees the 人兽性交鈥檚 media, digital, editorial, creative and design services and collaborates on marketing programs.

Teixeira most recently served as senior vice president at GMMB, where he co-led the communication firm鈥檚 Catalyst practice specializing in outreach to the Latinx community. He created and implemented communications, media relations, digital and content strategies for clients within the nonprofit, foundation and government sectors.

Previously, Teixeira was vice president of marketing and communications at Power to Decide, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sexual and reproductive well-being for all. He directed the organization鈥檚 overall marketing, communications and media relations efforts and strategy.

Earlier, Teixeira served as the senior director of communications at UnidosUS, the largest Hispanic civic rights and advocacy organization in the U.S. He was responsible for all the organization鈥檚 communications activities, including traditional media relations, digital communications, website and editorial functions.

Before joining UnidosUS, Teixeira was vice president of media relations at Zeno Group, a communications agency where he was responsible for much of the firm鈥檚 media relations activities. His duties also included providing counsel on crisis management issues, product launches and recalls, building brand awareness, and consumer and media awareness campaigns. He served as the head of the agency鈥檚 ethnic marketing initiatives.

Teixeira holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches intercultural communications, media relations practices and theories of mass communication at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Among professors within the Krieger school, he won the Professor of the Year award for 2020.
