Barnes Review/Foundation for Economic Liberty, Inc.

Founded by Willis Carto in 1994, The Barnes Review (TBR) is one of the most virulent anti-Semitic organizations around. Its flagship journal, The Barnes Review, and its website, Barnesreview.org, are dedicated to historical revisionism and Holocaust denial.

The organization is also a moneymaking enterprise. Besides journal subscriptions, its TBR Book Club and online bookstore promote and sell a wide range of extremist books and publications. It also hosts a bimonthly Radio show TBR History Hour hosted by American Free PressJohn Friend. The Barnes Review also hosts nearly annual conferences that attract an international crowd of antigovernment extremists, Holocaust revisionists, anti-Semites, white supremacists, and racist conspiracy theorists.

In Their Own Words

鈥淲ithout a means of confronting the onrushing third world, white civilization is doomed. It can do nothing else but deteriorate to a third world level with all that implies: the final triumph of liberalism; political correctness; a garbage culture; poverty; the extermination of the middle class and then Marxism. It means Jewish political and cultural domination, including a political tyranny comparable to Stalinism.鈥

鈥淸The Barnes Review] aims to tell you the truth 鈥 the whole truth about history 鈥 things you need to know to figure out how things got so screwed up 鈥 and why. It鈥檚 a good investment in your family鈥檚 future. No other history publication in America can truthfully say that. And that's the truth.鈥

鈥淛EWISH INVOLVEMENT IN THE COMMUNIST REVOLUTION BY JOHN WEAR, J.D. Radical Jewish activists, political instigators, and criminals were the main protagonists of the 鈥楻ussian鈥 revolution, which overthrew the tzar, resulting in the brutal murder of the royal family and millions of Gentiles. John Wear highlights and documents the overwhelming evidence that Jews played the leading role in this tragedy, using a variety of sources.鈥

Background

Named after Harry Elmer Barnes, a prominent 20th-century anti-Semite and Holocaust denier, The Barnes Review was created by Willis Carto, who also founded the extreme right-wing Liberty Lobby and the Institute for Historical Review (IHR), another Holocaust denial organization. Carto created The Barnes Review as a rival to IHR after he was forced out by the IHR鈥檚 leadership in 1993 for financial mismanagement.

Claiming that its mission is to 鈥渢o bring history into accord with the facts,鈥 TBR really practices an extremist form of revisionist history that includes defending the Nazi regime, denying the Holocaust, discounting the evils of slavery, and promoting white nationalism. The Barnes Review magazine has published articles titled 鈥淗olocaust by Bullets: Myth of the Genocide in the east,鈥 鈥淭he Rise and Fall of the Jewish Reich,鈥 鈥淲hy the Holocaust Story was Invented,鈥 鈥淎dolf Hitler 鈥 An Overlooked Candidate for the Nobel Prize?鈥, 鈥淭reblinka Was No Death Camp,鈥 鈥淚s There a Negro Race?鈥, 鈥溾楻econquista鈥: The Mexican Plan to Take the Southwest,鈥 and 鈥淒avid Duke: An Awakening.鈥 The Barnes Review, like most of the radical-right institutions started by Willis Carto over the decades, also gives voice to any number of wild conspiracy theories. TBR&rdsquo;s website puts it like this to its readers: 鈥淥ur purpose 鈥 to bring history into accord with the facts 鈥 was first enunciated by our namesake, Dr. Harry Elmer Barnes. It was he who began the crusade to accomplish this noble goal. No cause is more important to the survival of civilization. 鈥 Many intelligent Americans still believe Pearl Harbor was a 鈥榮urprise attack.鈥 It was not. 鈥 Many still believe Columbus (or Leif Ericsson) was first to America. He was not. 鈥 Or what about proof that there was federal foreknowledge and complicity in the OKC bombing? There was. We can鈥檛 even begin to discuss here the many questions that have never been answered about 9-11. The list of historical lies and distortions goes on and on and on 鈥︹

Besides serving Carto鈥檚 ideological and propaganda purposes, much of this 鈥渉istorical鈥 work also serves to raise money. Annual subscriptions to the bimonthly journal range from $56 to144, depending on shipping and number of issues. Recommended works by the TBR Book Club, including Cultural Insurrections: Essays on Western Civilization, Jewish Influence & Anti-Semitism, and March of Titans: A History of the White Race, can be purchased at TBR鈥檚 online bookstore. Advertising space is for sale. Featured authors and Radio Guests include known antisemites and Holocaust revisionists including Karl Haemers, John Wear, Henry Herskovitz, and Mark Weber. There is even a 鈥淭BR Distributor Program鈥 that will pay people for recruiting new subscribers to the TBR journal. The ad does its best to entice potential collaborators: 鈥淏ut before you say you can鈥檛 afford it or it鈥檚 too much work, look how easy 鈥 and how profitable 鈥 we鈥檝e made it.鈥

The Barnes Review鈥檚 has a vast book store that sells revisionist histories under the categories of American, European, and Southern History. This includes titles like March of the Titans: The Complete History of the White Race by Arthur Kemp, One Nation Under Zion: Zionist Influence on America by Peter Christian, and many others. The bookstore also sells back order of the bimonthly newsletter called 鈥淭he Barnes Review: A Journal of Politically Incorrect History.鈥 Additionally, they have a frequent Radio show called 鈥淭BR Mystery Hour鈥 and features interviews with known extremists and revisionists.

In the past the Barnes Review held nearly annual conferences to provide an opportunity to market TBR鈥檚 materials and ideology 鈥 and are nonsectarian regarding all manner of extremism. In past years, paying attendees could listen to lectures by longtime anti-Semite Eustace Mullins, antigovernment conspiracy-monger (and former FBI official) Ted Gunderson, and neo-Nazi Alex Hassinger, who runs Nordwave, a Florida group that calls itself 鈥淭he Voice of National Socialism.鈥 Hutton Gibson, an anti-Semitic 鈥渞adical traditionalist Catholic鈥 and the father of actor Mel Gibson鈥檚, was extremely popular during the 2003 conference.

Even though Carto died in 2015, the Barnes Review remains an active website, journal, and radio program that produces antisemitism, anti-Islam, anti-immigration, and revisionist histories and news. The Barnes Review is connected to other extremist publications and websites including The Institute for Historical Review, Committee for Open Debate about the Holocaust, and Clemens and Blair Publishing. Several more mainstream individuals have participated in what is really a Willis Carto show. William Lind of the Free Congress Foundation, a far-right group headed by Paul Weyrich (one of the founders of the Moral Majority), gave a speech at the 2002 conference. Although he told his audience that his Free Congress Foundation was 鈥渘ot among those who question whether the Holocaust occurred,鈥 he went on to lay blame for 鈥減olitical correctness鈥 and other evils on so-called 鈥渃ultural Marxists,鈥 who turned out to be the same folks Carto blames for America鈥檚 ills. 鈥淭hese guys,鈥 Lind explained, 鈥渨ere all Jewish.鈥

There is also an international presence at many of these conferences. For example, Arthur Kemp, a notorious South African white supremacist tied to the U.S. neo-Nazi group National Alliance who was once accused of helping plan a major terrorist assassination in his home country, spoke in 2006.

The Barnes Review continues to promote Christian Identity, a radical theology that claims that Jews are the literal descendants of Satan, as well as the supposed genocidal threats facing white people.
