Arab-Bashing Extremist Dropped by Libertarians
It鈥檚 over.
After a brief fling, the Libertarian Party has officially dumped its U.S. Senate candidate from Kentucky 鈥 former movie star Sonny Landham 鈥 whose support of genocide against Arabs was apparently too much for the 鈥減arty of principle.鈥
鈥淲hen you are in a war, you kill everything that moves,鈥 Landham said during a July 25 appearance on the radio program. That was just the most egregious of a barrage of anti-Arab comments Landham made last month: He repeatedly referred to Arabs as 鈥渃amel dung shovelers,鈥 asserted that all Arabs are terrorists, and advocated a ban on Arab immigration to the United States.
Shortly before the Libertarian Party decided last week to drop Landham, party chairman Ken Moellman said that Libertarian officials were 鈥渧ery disappointed鈥 by Landham鈥檚 remarks. 鈥淲ith the most recent comments, action was required,鈥 Moellman told the political news website .
But Landham had made nearly identical comments two years earlier, long before he became the Libertarian Party鈥檚 U.S. Senate candidate in June. He the Intelligence Report in 2006 that the 鈥渢he camel dung shovelers鈥 were attacking America. 鈥淎bdul, Fuzzy Wuzzy, and rest of the camel jockeys are our enemies,鈥 he continued. 鈥淭he answer is air power. We should bomb every man, woman and child in the Muslim countries. They鈥檙e hiding weapons and breeding terrorists. We need to commence genocide in the region. Islam is not a religion.鈥
Not only that, but Landham was an honorary member of the board of the (CCC), a hate group descended from the pro-segregationist White Citizens Councils. The CCC remains true to its racist roots, describing blacks as 鈥渁 retrograde species of humanity鈥 and comparing pop singer Michael Jackson to an ape. While Landham has claimed ignorance of the CCC鈥檚 anti-black stance, he told the Intelligence Report that he had 鈥渕ixed feelings鈥 about the 鈥渃ommunist-funded鈥 civil rights movement. Landham appeared in the CCC video, 鈥淎merica Under Attack鈥 (by, of course, the Arabs).
Landham was running for the Senate seat sought by Republican incumbent Mitch McConnell and Democrat Bruce Lunsford. Without the Libertarian Party nomination, Landham鈥檚 name likely won鈥檛 appear on the ballot at all; he told Politickerky.com that he doesn鈥檛 have enough time to gather the 5,000 signatures necessary to qualify for an independent run. He also told the website that he stands by his remarks, saying 鈥渁nybody that disagrees with me is anti-American, is anti-Israel, and is anti-Semitic.鈥
Landham, who is part Native-American, made his foray into politics after a career as a porn star. He ran for governor of Kentucky in 2003 as the anti-establishment candidate in the GOP primary, but dropped out for personal reasons.
