Border Patrol Union VP Appeared on Antigovernment Show with Extremist Host Who Wants to Shut Down the Border, Called for Obama to be Shot
Shawn Moran is the Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), which represents more than 17,000 border patrol agents and support staff. Last week, he appeared on the Pete Santilli Show, whose host is organizing a protest to on July 5th and who previously called for President Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Bush family to be .
The NBPC has a conservative stance on immigration, so it鈥檚 no surprise that Moran鈥檚 name appears regularly in right-wing outlets. But he crossed the line by lending credibility to an extremist like Pete Santilli who wants to shut down the very thing 鈥 the border 鈥 that he and the people he represents are sworn to protect.
What鈥檚 more, Santilli recently promoted armed resistance against the federal Bureau of Land Management agents who were called in to uphold the rule of law during the standoff at 鈥檚 Nevada ranch. He said that the agents must leave or face a 鈥.鈥
Most disturbing of all, Santilli called in May of 2013 for Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Bush family . 鈥淢iss Hillary Clinton needs to be convicted, she needs to be tried, convicted and shot in the vagina,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 wanna pull the trigger.鈥 And he said that 鈥淏arack Obama needs to be tried, convicted, and shot for crimes against the United States of America.鈥
Santilli is currently working a group of bikers to shut down the U.S.-Mexico border on "Cinco de Julio." He said his plan wasn鈥檛 鈥済oing to be a secret to Shawn Moran鈥 but that that he didn鈥檛 鈥渆xpect him to chime in on that.鈥 That鈥檚 because the protest runs squarely against the mission the mission of the Border Patrol. Nonetheless, Santilli claimed it was all being done in 鈥渟upport of our good men and women who are serving in the Border Patrol.鈥
Santilli told Moran that he was hearing from a confidential whistleblower source that the Border Patrol was planning to train undocumented immigrants detained at the border to help manage the border. When Moran said he hadn鈥檛 heard anything about it, Santilli speculated that the Border Patrol was restricting the media鈥檚 access in order to conceal the plan (they鈥檙e more focused on 鈥渟uppressing鈥 and 鈥渃ontaining the media鈥 than undocumented immigrants, he claimed).
Last week on his show, Santilli Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for failing to believe his claim that Arabs are coming across the border in the midst of the current . 鈥淭here are Arabs coming over the border,鈥 he . 鈥淚 personally saw them.鈥 Santilli repeated a version of the claim to Moran, saying that he personally witnessed ten asylum-seekers of Arab descent being dropped off by Department of Homeland Security personnel at the Phoenix Greyhound station.
Santilli circled back to his 鈥淐inco de Julio鈥 protest, saying to Moran, 鈥測ou do not need to endorse 鈥 I understand how sensitive this is.鈥 He then said that shutting down the border would send the message that 鈥渨e鈥檙e not going to allow commerce to flow if you鈥檙e going to allow these immigrants to flow.鈥 But 鈥渢hat鈥檚 something separate from our conversation today,鈥 he continued.
Moran, for his part, avoided commenting on Santilli鈥檚 border shutdown protest. Instead he simply urged listeners to contact their elected officials and urge them to endorse . Santilli closed the segment with a rousing call to action. 鈥淟et鈥檚 demand some accountability,鈥 he said. 鈥淟et鈥檚 get to the border and shut it down on Cinco de Julio!鈥 he said, almost screaming.
There鈥檚 no question that the NBPC and its members have a stake in the immigration debate. But Moran, the union鈥檚 vice president, has no business being on an antigovernment show with an extremist host who threatened to kill the president and is planning to shut down the border. He really should鈥檝e known better.
