White Nationalists Continue to Support Trump Through Robocalls

Two prominent white nationalists appeared on a  released in Iowa last weekend voicing support for Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

Jared Taylor, head of the New Century Foundation and American Renaissance website,  joined William Johnson, president of the white nationalist American Freedom Party (AFP) on the robocall, which was paid for by Johnson’s American National Super PAC.

While Taylor’s support for Trump has remained steadfast for months, AFP’s official endorsement of Trump is interesting. The party is running its own candidate for president in 2015, white nationalist Bob Whitaker. But in a press release, Whitaker claimed he had no qualms with AFP endorsing Trump ahead of its own candidate. “Our campaign slogan is ‘Diversity is a Code Word for White Genocide.’ Donald Trump’s campaign may help remind Americans that all genocide, even against white people, is evil. My campaign is there to help keep the candidates on point regarding race in America,” Whitaker said.

The robocall is the latest in a laundry list of white nationalists endorsing Trump’s campaign. Former KKK grand wizard David Duke has endorsed Trump, as has Andrew Anglin’s Daily Stormer. Kyle Rogers, the former webmaster for the white nationalist group Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) is selling Trump t-shirts online and Brad Griffin, the CCC’s current webmaster, regularly praises Trump in his writings. (Accused Charleston killer Dylann Roof has cited the CCC website as a gateway to his racist views.)

While Trump has called for a database to track Muslims in the United States and routinely castigated Muslims who attend his political rallies, the Iowa robocall praises most of all Trumps positions on Mexican immigrants and his call to build a border wall.

“I urge you to vote for Donald Trump because he is the one candidate who points out that we should accept immigrants who are good for America. We don’t need Muslims. We need smart, well-educated white people who will assimilate to our culture. Vote Trump,” Taylor says in the robocall.

Despite the mounting white nationalist endorsements, Trump continues to sidestep calls to disavow white nationalist support. In classic Trump fashion, he says he doesn’t need Duke’s endorsement, nor anyone’s for that matter. But as the endorsements continue to roll in, it will become increasingly hard for Trump to ignore such a growing base of support.
