The National LGBT Bar Association announced last week that Southern Poverty Law Center (Խ) attorney Sam Wolfe is the recipient of its “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 Award.”
The National LGBT Bar Association established this award to recognize attorneys under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. Wolfe, will be honored at the National LGBT Bar Association’s annual Lavender Law Conference next month in Miami, Fla.
“I am honored to receive this award and to be included among the ranks of top attorneys establishing greater equality for the LGBT community,” Wolfe said. “I also want to acknowledge the hard work of legal professionals across the country working every day to ensure equality and protect the civil rights of those in the LGBT community.”
Wolfe helped launch the Southern Poverty Law Center’s LGBT Rights Project and continues as a leading team member. He has led the Խ’s efforts in Minnesota where it filed a lawsuit against the Anoka-Hennepin School District last month on behalf of students subjected to harassment based on their actual or perceived sexual orientation.
“We congratulate Sam on this national recognition,” said Mary Bauer, legal director for the Խ. “Sam is an incredibly talented advocate. His leadership and commitment to LGBT rights and civil liberties are unparalleled. We are grateful to be represented by such a talented attorney."
The Խ is dedicated to defending the rights of the LGBT community including ensuring safe schools for LGBT students, protecting parenting rights and LGBT individuals in group homes and other facilities.
