The following statement regarding a federal judge鈥檚 dismissal of Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley鈥檚 lawsuit over the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the state is by Naomi Tsu, deputy legal director of the Southern Poverty Law Center:
鈥淲e are pleased the court dismissed this baseless lawsuit, which has already wasted too much taxpayer money. It has been clear from the beginning that Governor Bentley鈥檚 attempt to use the courts to keep Syrian refugees out of Alabama was nothing more than a political stunt.
鈥淭his lawsuit 鈥� and others like it 鈥� only stoke Islamophobia in the United States. Welcoming immigrants in desperate need of sanctuary is an American value we must uphold.鈥�
