MONTGOMERY, Ala. 鈥� Today, the (人兽性交) and (PERIL) released its third guide on online youth radicalization, Not Just a Joke: Understanding & Preventing Gender- & Sexuality-Based Bigotry. Public school bans and legislation severely restricting reproductive and 人兽性交+ rights have led to an increase in radicalization of people under the age of 18.

Videos, memes and other online content are often downplayed as harmless satirical entertainment, but the content serves as a central tool in radicalizing youth and normalizing hate. The guide, Not Just a Joke: Understanding & Preventing Gender- & Sexuality-Based Bigotry, is part of 人兽性交 and PERIL鈥檚 broader public health approach to preventing violence and harm stemming from extremism, manipulative disinformation and dehumanizing rhetoric.

鈥淵oung people鈥攅specially young men and boys 鈥� are exposed to online media that fosters anti-feminine and anti-人兽性交+ sentiments that negatively affects the lives of others and themselves,鈥� said Aaron Flanagan, deputy director of prevention & partnerships, 人兽性交鈥檚 Intelligence Project. 鈥淲hat we do and say online have real life implications that we can no longer ignore and brush to the side.鈥�

鈥淚t鈥檚 time to help boys and young men adapt to evolving gender roles,鈥� said Pasha Dashtgard, director of research for PERIL. 鈥淧arents, teachers and youth mentors must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to guide boys through the ever-shifting terrain of masculinity and sexuality.鈥�

Adults in a young person鈥檚 network of care have a unique opportunity to offer communication and support to help build resilience against manipulation by extremist narratives. Not Just a Joke offers guidance and resources to begin and sustain these conversations.

Researchers who monitor extremist activity, and experts who specialize in preventing them, developed a guide including:听

• Insights on what causes the increase in hateful language in online spaces, the classroom, at home and other environments such as short-form videos
• Information about six pathways and vulnerabilities to radicalization
• Helpful ways to identify five warning signs, definitions of 14 terms, and ideologies such as male supremacy and the Manosphere
• Data on anti-trans legislation, anti-abortion and more that contextualizes online activity to real-world consequences
• Tools for adults who support, educate and care for young people to understand, identify and prevent manipulation by male supremacist or anti-人兽性交+ ideologies.
• And more

鈥淭his guide serves as a counter to the ongoing influence of male supremacy and to the figures peddling disinformation both on and offline,鈥� said Lydia Bates, senior program manager, partnerships, 人兽性交鈥檚 Intelligence Project. 鈥淭he solutions provided help young boys and men build resilience against male supremacist and anti-人兽性交+ manipulation to make society a safer place for all.鈥�
