人兽性交 CALLS FOR PROTECTIONS FOR REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS ON WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2022

础罢尝础狈罢础听鈥撎Efr茅n C. Olivares, Deputy Legal Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center鈥檚 (人兽性交)听Immigrant Justice Project, released the following statement鈥痶o join the鈥痶o observe international听World Refugee Day听on June 20. For more than two decades, nations around the world, humanitarian aid workers and government officials chose this day to honor the strength, courage and resilient spirit of those who have been forced to flee their homes.

鈥淚n 2022,听听worldwide were forcibly displaced by persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations and extreme poverty. That included refugees, internally displaced people and asylum seekers from scores of countries on every continent. The UN Refugee Agency now projects about听听will leave Ukraine.

鈥淭he U.S. admitted only听, the lowest number since Congress passed the听听for people fleeing persecution in their country of origin. This sharp decline fell far below the nation鈥檚 cap of 62,500 refugees for 2021.听听

鈥淟ast year,听s听on horseback infamously chased Black Haitian asylum-seekers with reins raised like a lash at the southern border. The recent U.S.听听under a practice known as Title 42 has听听迟丑补迟听听are treated differently than other migrants. At least听听when their boat capsized, as they sought survival and fled gang-related violence, poverty, political instability and extreme disasters.听

鈥溙齠leeing violence and persecution, also often face remarkably high numbers of sexual assault and extreme violence along their perilous journey. Discrimination and abuse continue at immigration detention centers, often with impunity. Racist and homophobic actions on both sides of the border for migrants that seek protection 鈥 legally available under domestic and international law 鈥 violate the human rights of refugees and asylum-seekers.听

鈥淭he 人兽性交 is defending the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in听a听myriad听of听ways.听We confront the rejection of asylum seekers听听through a鈥series of lawsuits鈥痶hat seek to protect their rights. This month, the听人兽性交 urged revisions to a new federal rule that denies due process rights to asylum seekers.听罢丑谤辞耻驳丑听辞耻谤听Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative听(SIFI),听we represent hundreds of asylum seekers who are trapped in dehumanizing prisons contracted by听U.S.听Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to help them secure their release, defend their human rights and ultimately obtain protection and听a safe haven听in听America.听

I suffered prolonged detention in a Louisiana jail while seeking asylum, which was especially horrible for me as a trans woman. As a political dissident, I speak out today against this injustice not only for my 人兽性交听brothers and sisters, but for听all of听my fellow asylum seekers whose lives have been directly harmed by failed U.S. foreign and domestic policy.鈥櫶齏e can and must do better.听
