Խ Greatly Concerned About Presidential Cabinet Nominees’ Qualifications
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — In preparation for the transition of power, the incoming Trump administration has announced several controversial Cabinet nominees to lead critical U.S. agencies.
“From protecting civil rights to ensuring students can learn in schools free from violence and discrimination, along with protecting people from hate and extremism, our government agencies each play a vital role in pursuing an equitable and just society for all,” said Margaret Huang, president and CEO, The Southern Poverty Law Center. “The communities across the Deep South that we serve deserve qualified leaders who have the requisite experience and believe in the important work of the federal agencies. The nominees must also demonstrate high ethical and moral standards, including having no ties to white nationalist or extremist individuals or organizations.
“We have deep concerns about whether some of the individuals nominated meet the high bar required for these appointments. We urge the incoming administration to put forward nominees who are willing to defend the laws, policies, and programs that vulnerable communities in the South and across the nation rely on to reduce poverty and achieve a more equitable society.”
